Week 9-Surrender

So this week was a success! Great fashion, and a great story. I cannot even begin to fawn more over this first pick, obviously. It is absolutely STUNNING.

So ruffles might be a bit much for some people, but i thought this dress was flawless. It flattered her body even with all of the ruffles and i just think it was so classy. She really looked beautiful. The dress is called the "Fantasy Gown" and is by Monique Lhuillier. Interesting name, huh? This is the moment Emily has been waiting for. This is part of her new Fall 2013 collection and the price is not listed. There was detail on the bodice, and delicate ruffles, i thought it was fabulous. The sweetheart neckline, the diamond necklace, the fullness of the skirt, it was beautiful. It was silk white with embroidered lace and had organza tiers. Perfection.

Next was Margo's little red dress.
I thought it was cute, fun, and simple. It is the "Allie" dress by J.Crew. It is made of wool and silk and features tailoring at the bust with a straight skirt. It is a sleeveless fit and flare so it can be dressed up for down and i just love it with the chunky chainlink necklace. It even has hidden pockets! It retails for $148 which is a great price. Simple, well made, and flattering.

I have to throw in a hated piece in here (sorry) or i feel like it wouldn't be me.
Here we see Victoria in, well, this thing. It is a pink Aigrette dress by Alaia. First off it is my most hated color in the world, mauve. Yuck, the name of the color is even terrible. Its a boat neck dress with a little texture and a pleated skirt. I just thought it was awful. She looked washed out, old, and it accentuated the wideness of her hips. She actually looks half dead wearing it in the picture. Its sleeveless, retails for $3,329 although i have no idea who would want to pay that for this. Its material is mostly Viscose. A huge NO from me overall.

Lastly is Emily again. Her whole outfit is super cute and very classy.
She is wearing a grey Ark Suiting Blazer by Helmut Lang and a polka dotted "Anabella" top by Soft Joie. It has a point collar detail, single front button, and padded shoulders. It is mostly viscose and features three buttons on the cuffs, two front slit pockets, and a back vent. It is a classic look, with a unique collar and creates a modern, tall, slender look. It retails for around $361, a price well worth it. Her shirt is a soft peachy/pink polka dotted collared shirt by Soft Joie that retails for $142. It is made of viscose and features a left pocket and full button closure. She pairs the tops with classic black dress pants and a gold belt, tucked in, to create a modern, timeless, business casual look. Bravo!

Week 8-Secrecy

Week 8 titled, “Secrecy” was an amazing episode-one of the best I’ve seen from the show in a long time. Unfortunately this blog is not dedicated to the rambling of episodes but rather to the disheartening choice of wardrobe we’ve seen this season. And as yet another week rolls on by, I am back from Thanksgiving break to discuss the ensembles of last week’s episode. While this week was not as horrible as some of the previous ones, I was still a little disappointed. The casual pieces were cute, and comfy, while the higher end choices and dressier items were just, well, blah.

The first piece I liked was Emily’s cable knit white sweater. It was cute, casual, and perfect for fall. It was not anything special but was nice to see something that was an everyday item that someone like myself can relate to.  It is beautifully knitted and the pattern was timeless and feminine. The sweater is a "Casey" crewneck by Club Monaco and is made of Merino wool. It retails for $149.50, a great deal for a quality sweater. The sweater showed Emily in a more vulnerable light, which is not a common thing to see in regards to this particular character.

The only evening wear I liked was Margo’s sleeveless mustard-colored crepe dress. The color is very in this fall and is extremely flattering, especially when paired with cute dark boots and dark hair. The dress is by Jason Wu, a name very well known and a high-end designer. It is part of his fall/winter collection. The dress is sleek with impeccable tailoring. It also is racerback-styled and a small rear slit. It is made of 95% virgin wool, and is lined, making it a warm, comfy fall dress. This particular one retails for $1,850.  I actually was obsessed with this dress, it is beautiful, dainty, while still durable and "French classic".

While the black and white color block is “in,” I really do not care. I hate it. Therefore I particularly hated this next item.

While the black and white color block is “in,” I really do not care. I hate it. Therefore I particularly hated this next item. Victoria Grayson wears this black and white wool shift dress by Michael Kors. It sells for $1,460.89 and features a scoop neck, short cap sleeves, and a knee length skirt. I mean, the dress itself is just a plain shift dress, which is fine, but the color block kills me. Also, for whatever reason this dress jut did not flatter the actress wearing it at all. Usually, she looks good in most everything but not this time. It could also be the fact that it makes her look like an orca whale with the black shell, and white underbelly. Yikes.

Emily is just feeling the casual Friday vibe this week. I loved a teal-green shirt she had on while jut being “revengy” surfing the web at her house. The shirt is the sleeveless T.Tahari with a zipper front that is no longer available. It was retailed for $108. It is made of polyester and has a plunging v-neckline featuring that unique zipper front to create an urban, young, piece. It is pinched on the shoulders and flows down creating a slouchy yet feminine fall. The teal-green color looks great on the actress and gold bracelet accents the color nicely. The messy side pony pulls the outfit together looking “messy chic.” Again, it is weird to see this character in pieces such as these that are so casual and show such clamness. I would wear this shirt, as I’m sure many other people my age would as well.

Unfortunately Revenge skips an episode because of the holiday so I will have to update you all when it returns to tv. But for now, pray that the pieces are more beautiful than ever for next week!

Week 7-Resurgence

Finally, there is a God of Revenge and its not Emily Thorne. Like, its actually a fashion god. He has shed a little of his fashion light down on this episode. This episode brings lots of shapes, patterns, material, and color. These pieces are very modern. The geometrics are modern, and the use of color as well. So, i'll introduce my picks of the night. Thank god.

At first i thought this one was a dress. As I looked closer, i realized it was a top and skirt. Helloooo modern! Mixing and matching is so in right now and Margot pulls it off beautifully.

She is pictured here wearing a Prabal Gurung ruffled crochet front sweater vest made of wool. It has a contrast neckline, arm holes, and waist of nude and black. The geometric shapes that are sewn into the ruffled tulle, along along with the contrast gives it the modern, chic look. It is beautifully made, which i reflected in its price at $825 at Barney's New York. On bottom she wears a bright, bold, royal blue "kensie" pleated miniskirt. It goes well with the fun and flirty-ness of the ruffles on the shirt. Believe it or not, ordinary peasants like us can get this skirt! It retails at only $79 at Nordstrom and is ON SALE for $41.70. I might fall out of my chair. This colorblock outfit is a definite trend this season and here it just works beautifully. The added belt and teardrop earrings, with the cute pixie-cut ties it all in. Margot you go girl! (Even though i hate you.)

Up next is a stunner. It doesn't need much introduction.
It's Valentino, its lace, and its red. Like, HI. It doesn't get much more classy than this. Emily kills it with the red lip and sleek pulled back pony. The rest of her face is close to natural and with her skin it is a look of elegance and pure beauty. The dress is called the "Rose Guipure Lace Sheath Dress" in rouge. It is sleeveless and has a high neckline with a narrow A-line skirt. It retails for various prices, depending on the store (Neiman Marcus, Saks, Marissa Collections) but at all three it is around $5000. I just love this on her. The classic beauty of it really does speak for itself. Marvelous.

Another nail on the head is Victoria's dress. I am very impressed this week by these dresses, absolutely perfect for the characters and real high end designers.
Victoria waltzes in wearing a gorgeous royal blue dress by Roland Mouret. Mouret has been seen on numerous red carpet guests and now even in hit series such as this. This "Bronte stretch-crepe dress" is offered only in this shocking royal color and features precise fold details. This is another piece that shows the modern shapes as the folds create a geometric masterpiece at the neckline. Mouret creates a fabulous curve hugging dress, as he always does, along with his noticeable expert tailoring. Classic, yet modern, in a modern color, with timeless red lipstick is perfect for Victoria. The earrings match the shape the folds make at the middle further highlighting the unique tailoring of the top. Oh, I forgot to mention, it retails for a casual $2,830. *hair flip*

Now there were others that I liked on the episode however I feel like the ones above were definite standouts that blew me away. Therefore, i might stop here. Emily had a teal Burberry dress that i loved for a casual daytime dress (ha! listen to me, a casual day-time Burberry-I need to stop living through these characters and remember i'm a broke college student) that was plain but cute. Margot also showed off a strawberry pink peplum dress that was also plain, cute, and simple, but not "wow." Charlotte was in a terrible red and white body con dress but I won't go further into detail with that as it will ruin the moment. Well, we had some lovely items displayed tonight. Let's see if next week can top it! Night revengers.

Week 6-"Dissolution"

Ew. Ew. Ew is all i have to say about this week. I mean come on. These people are supposed to be perceived as having more money than Bill Gates and this is all the costume designers come up with? This episode was full of deception, peace, and even sadness. There were so many emotions that could have been dramatically displayed through the characters' fashion but the ball was dropped. The outfits were just blah indicating a "filler" type episode but it wasn't at all. So without further adieu, i'll introduce the choices.

I suppose i'll go from least boring to most boring. Victoria has my favorite out of all the options this week.
She is wearing a Catherine Deane two-tone leather top combo cocktail dress with laser cutout details. It is belted at the waist (included with the dress). The ivory and black is gorgeous along with the studded belt and gold accessories. With this dress, it is not so much that the dress is horrid, but the fact that they chose it for her and in that scene. Nothing very bold or edgy happens in the scene she wears it in and therefore the outfit does not fit the emotion. Also, it is on the verge of too young looking for her. It is featured at Neiman Marcus for $950 on a sleek, younger model and it looks great. While Victoria can rock the sometimes more edgy pieces, this one is borderline for me. She looks like she stole it from her daughter's closet. Literally, Charlotte would wear this and look great in it. So overall, meh.

As i have said before, the outfits were blah. The pieces were not the problem in some instances though, but the whole look HAS to come together to create the desired emotion. Not to beat a dead horse or anything. So next Charlotte has on yet again another Tahari leather jacket.
This might be the only piece that matches the emotion. Charlotte has been lying, sneaking, and plotting so edgy (lamb) leather is actually a nice match. But, its only a tiny beam of light on the entire wardrobe selection. I mean, its just a small jacket, worn not even zipped, and with tan jeans, to make it even more casual. It retails for $1556 and features princess seams, a smoked back waist, pleats, and cropped sleeves. It is a beautiful jacket but again is only a small piece to a larger picture.

The same goes for her other outfit of the night. The pieces are oookay. But certainly not together as a complete outfit.

It is hard to see on Charlotte so i have added the extra pictures. The jacket is a beaded silk organza jacket by Haute Hippie retailing at about $537 at Neiman. While it is interesting, i think it is much too heavy looking. The metal beading on the silk organza is just too harsh. It weighs it down on the fabric as well as when worn making the wearer look a little frumpish. They paired it with a banded, beaded skirt again by Haute Hippie for $495. It has gold running through it as well. For me, this is way too much beading to be paired with the jacket. All these beads, the gold, the pattern, it was overwhelming and unnecessary. It might parallel the chaos of her family, but there are other ways to display that.

Ahh, Emily, Emily, Emily. I don't know what is going on with her but these grandma dresses have to go. Lately, she has been boring in pastels.
Are you going to Sunday Easter Mass? FYI you live in the Hamptons girl, and Daniel isn't going to dig these things for much longer. This purple draped jersey dress by Armani Collezioni goes for $1,295. It does not go with anything Emily does in this episode. While she is still trying to play the role of sweet, goody goody, bride-to-be, there are other ways to go about it than dressing like a 95 year old. This dress has hideous pleats, and a dull muddled purple color. The pleats meet in the middle into a large knot that is gathered and streams down into one. It is just not flattering. Not much else to say about it.

So while not all of the pieces are completely unbearable, i believe they were not chosen correctly. Emily's definitely was not pleasing to the eye however. Again, i am disappointed this week. It really is sad because this budget allows for beautiful clothing but the choices are poor at best. I think they need to remember that clothing is not just garments, they can help tell a story and are particularly useful in a tv show like this. There are no male mentions this week, the closest that came to a mention was that Nolan wore a plum cashmere crew neck. But then again, nothing out of the ordinary for him. I hope they get it together next week, i don't know how much more ranting about clothing being ordinary i can  handle.

Week 5- "Control"

This week's episode, was "Control." Let me tell you I did not even realize how many times these people change outfits until i started this blog. Honestly, is it necessary to change FOUR to FIVE times per day? No, the answer is no, it is not, its just a lot of extra laundry that granted your maids do, but whatever i guess. Truthfully, this blog, i've decided, after watching this last episode is going to be mostly devoted to the women of the show. The guys will get honorable mentions, but really, they are all usually dressed in a classic Armani or Givenchy, or even Brooks Bros. I'll highlight the outfits that stood out to me this week. First off, we have my personal favorite of the night (which surprisingly with my usually more glam taste) was Charlotte's black leather jacket.
This is the "Suella" perforated leather jacket by Elie Tahari. It retails for around $600 right now on Tahari's website so good news, its on sale. LOL. It originally retails for $998 so Charlotte here, is sporting a great item. The great thing about this jacket is that the laser-cut perforation makes it unique from a regular leather jacket. It is perfectly cut into a feminine shape and uses a delicate zipper. It is structured like a track jacket, and is still fancy enough to be dressed up and worn out for a night on the town. What is best about it is that it was worn in the scene where she is being a bit of a badass. No spoilers, but the rebel in Charlotte comes out in her personality, and is paired with the edgy nappa leather to make the outfit fit the scene.

Now onto something i particularly hated.
Madeleine Stowe, better known as "Queen Victoria Grayson"slipped into this gold spaghetti strap dress for her sons wedding festivities. In the episode she took a casual little trip to Bergdorf, (but like, where else would she go) and came out with this?! Tisk, tisk Queenie. I would have expected a lot more from this Hampton socialite. Then again, i will get to that in the next outfit. Anyhow, she unfortunately shows up in this gold foil gown by L'Wren Scott retailing at around $3000 called the "Jaquard Slip Dress." Please, Victoria slip on OUT. The crinkly gold foil looks horrendously cheap and makes her look even older than she is. The cracking of the foil looks like the wrinkles she already as, hence, more wrinkles, and more old looking. It is saggy everywhere the droop at the neckline just makes her look frumpy. I really think this dress is made for someone much younger, with a tall, sticklike figure. Maybe Emily?

At her trip to the bridal salon we see Victoria in a longer, more elegant dress than the one above. That is the dress she should have chosen.
Here we see an absolutely gorgeous burgundy Vera Wang "Kaye" mermaid gown from her Spring Bridal Collection 2013. This dress is stunning. It accentuates her body perfectly, making her look teeny-tiny on top and has the right amount of flare at the base. The pleated ruffles give it more body and elegance paired with the one-shouler ruffling at the top and at the bodice. It is hard to tell here but it also had a wave of small ruffling snaking down the left side from the top all the way to the base. The color was flawless and went better with her skin tone and hair. Her "girls" were flattered by the cut of the dress and it was just the right amount of cleavage. This dress was classic and perfect for the occasion, but then again, we all know she went with the gold to try and upstage Emily. Well, fail.

The same goes for Charlotte. We see her in a BCBG "Kimora" cut-out gown at the salon. This dress is edgy, sexy, and flattering. She is tall and small enough to wear it and it shows enough skin to be worn to the party, but not enough to be considered trashy. Not that BCBG is ever trashy. This only retails for $220, one of the lowest this week. It is a sophisticated sexy as we have recently seen Charlotte grow into a more mature character. This new sense of style she has was seen in the first episode of season 3 when she returns from Europe. The new european style is seen over and over in her revamped wardrobe, and i think its brilliant. As a character matures, so should their style. The flat black is seamless, and the thick strap give it the coverage needed. With the right earring (a plain one as the dress is made to be plain) she should have shown up in this. Not this disaster shown below...

This is what she ended up wearing. Um, ew. This horrendous purple eyelet-cutout was very odd-looking. Its is by Laundry by Shelli Segal and is even cheaper, retailing for $180, than the cheap BCBG she SHOULD HAVE picked. It has the three cut-outs on top with a cutout rounded neckline. The material puckered while worn making her boobs look saggy and awkward on top. It was an odd line between too big and too small on her because of where the cutouts were and how it made the fabric fall. To me, it was a little too conservative for the "new Charlotte" image. Paired with that god-awful undo bun and the bangs, she looked like a 7-year-old going to her first opera. The dropped stone earrings made it even worse, not that it really mattered what earrings she had on that that point since the outfit was terrible anyhow. And purple? Why?

Those are my highlights of the episode this week. Suprisingly Emily didn't even sneak in there. She had a few plain dresses and a jumpsuit she wore to her own pre-wedding party (um, okay..) but basically, nothing special from her this week. Margot was an honorable mention in a yellow lace Michael Kors, as well as Nolan with his fancy red linen blazer. I liked some, but nothing blew me away. I hope next week they really bring it, as i was McKayla-style...
Not Impressed.

Welcome!

Welcome! This bog is devoted to analyzing and critiquing the many outfit choices in the show, Revenge, season 3. Being set in the wealthy Hamptons, fashion is something that is not taken as a joke. These men and women are the icons of their area. They wear glamorous gowns really to anything they'd like (even the local saloon in-wait for it-peasantville Montauk) and don't think twice about it. The Hamptons are a place chalk full of fashion and judgements are made right away whether you are even worth talking to or not. With the help of WornOnTv, I can elaborate on just a few glamorous divas at the top of the fashion hierarchy.  In this season "Queen" Victoria Grayson, Emily Thorne, and Charlotte Grayson look to be the main competitors. The dapper males include Nolan Ross (and his fabulously flambouyant suits), Daniel Grayson, and Conrad Grayson. So get ready to see some gorgeous, high-fashion pieces, and even some things you would have never expected.
